First Day of School

Image
Our first day of school was Thursday. He is in fourth grade & she is in second grade. The day went great. No complaints about school at this point. However, the homework hasn't started yet.

Memories

Image
Over the weekend I found some pictures that are priceless. It seems like yesterday that my husband & I brought them home from the hospital. Now my son is going to 4th grade & my daughter is going to 2nd grade. Life doesn't stand still for anyone. As my blog goes, Don't blink, life goes faster than you think. Then Now

In Memory

As I sat down to write about the day I had with my kids, I turned on the news & heard that John Challis just passed away. John was diagnosed at the age of 16 with an adult form of liver cancer. John's outlook on life was one of true inspiration. He feels that God has given him this disease because he is strong enough to handle it and can help others by spreading his message. His message is "It is not how many breaths you take, it is what you do with each breath you take." I worked as an RN on the Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant floor at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh for many years. Children & teens will always have a place in my heart. I didn't know John personally, but what I have seen on the news & read on line, he certainly was a fighter to the end. Let me tell you, I am in need for a good laugh. So I turned to Chelsea Handler for help. I started reading her new book "Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea" She is do damn funny. Made From Scratch

Image
Since the weather cooled down a little this past Sunday, I promised my daughter that I would do some baking. This was made from scratch. I don't like to use box mixes anymore. I love to bake but hate cleaning up the after. This is a vanilla cake with a whipped butter cream icing & a strawberry jam filling. I have been thinking about taking a cake decorating class for some time, however, I can't seem to fit it into my busy schedule.

Silver Hair Grandma Rides Coasters

Image
So I'm waiting in the Cardiologists office with my 82 year old mother when she leans over & asks me,"Did I tell you I went to Kennywood for Polish Day?" (no ,I am not Polish) I replied, "You told me you were going." I didn't think it was a big deal. She & my aunts like to go walk around & look at the unusual sites, cute babies & kids. Mom then begins to tell my she rode the rides. I thought; That's nice, she rode the Merry Go Round & the train. The nice calm rides that one elderly person would ride when you have a 7 stents, hypertension, arthritis, one hip replacement & a torn rotator cuff. I think I hit all of her medical conditions. She then says she rode everything. The kids & I looked at her somewhat confused. What does she mean by everything? This is when the kids started to question her. "Did you ride the Turnpike?" Grandma replied,"EVERYTHING" The kids looked at me & I looked at them, still puzz

Getting Organized

Image
When I was single it seemed like I was more organized, I probably was. I didn't have to keep track of numerous events other than what weenkend & holidays I had to work. Then along came the beautiful children & they sucked just about every brain cell I had left. Not to mention the diagnosis of Hypothyroidism. But that's a story for another day & time. So, where was I? Oh yeah! getting organized. I found a really neat website Cozi..com . It has a calender, shopping list & family journal. Check it out.

Nobody's Perfect

Image
Nobody's perfect, listen to me. Do you think my daughter has me brainwashed with Hannah Montana. When does school start? Any how, this pepper is right out of my garden. My kids picked it up off the counter & examined it closely. The puzzled look on their faces was priceless. The finally the question. What is this? I explained to them that it is a green pepper from the garden. For some reason I don't think they believed me.

Drive In

We took to the kids Sunday night to the drive in. I have been wanting to do this for awhile now & finally did it. It was a challenge trying to find one in the area. Drive ins are almost extinct. The kids had a great time. We plan on going back soon.

Finally! A green pepper.

Wii Be Getting Fit

Image
At last! My hubby managed to snag the last Wii Fit at Circuit City. Well let me tell you what, this is some workout. I got started by adding some personal info like height & birth date. As of now I don't have a problem with giving my age but that may change in a few ( notice I said a few). The mat then prompted me to step on. It calculated my BMI (Body Mass Index), translation- how fat I am. I was pleasantly surprised that I fall in the normal category. Some of the workout selections are yoga, aerobics, strength training, & balance. I'm hoping if I keep working on this I will loose some of those "middle age pounds" ( Wow! I never thought that I would ever be middle age) I will also improve my balance, which I didn't think was that bad until the Wii told me kinda sucks. The kids love it, in addition to laughing at me nearly falling over trying to do some of the yoga poses. This is Mii on the Wii.
