Feel Good Moment

Image
I had the opportunity of a life time. For three consecutive years in a row, I worked as the school nurse at the school my children attend. It started out just as a substitute position until the regular school nurse returned from a back injury. Turned out that I spent three years as the full time school nurse. I always hoped that I could have a positive impact on just one child. Well that hope became reality. Yesterday, I was approached by a mother & girl scout leader. She informed my that the fifth grade girls wanted me to talk to them about the sensitive topic of puberty. The girls approached her with the request. Unfortunately do to time restraints & busy schedules, I was unable to do this for these girls. This is a moment that live on in my heart & mind forever.

Just Another Mundane Day

Up at 5 am. Got shower. Had a cup of joe. Watched the news. Got dressed. Woke up the kids. Got breakfast ready. Pack lunches. Helped kids get dressed. Final check of back packs & out the door. Dropped kids off at school (we don't have busing). Came home & kissed hubby good-bye. Got mom her morning meds. Loaded dishwasher. Did some laundry. Got mom's clothes ready & helped her get ready for the shower. Cleaned up the kitchen. Got mom breakfast. Get ready for what ever bizarre behavior my mother throws my way. Need I go on. This is a typical day in my house. I am so ready for a change. It is time to do some soul searching. Help!

Why?

I have a permanent scar on my heart. Just as it was healing the scab has been violently ripped open once again & it is bleeding profusely. My question is, "Why?" Why is God doing this? Over the weekend my son's best friend lost his mother due to a year long illness. She was only forty years old. She was a wife & mother of three beautiful children. Why? Why was she taken so young? I am angry! Angry with God right now. Why would you take her away? There is an eleven year old boy who's mom won't be there to see him go to the prom & graduate from high school. A young woman who's mother won't be there when she graduates in three years from college & help her pick out a wedding dress. What about the young man who's mother won't be there when he comes home from the service in two years. Maybe I'm selfish. I just don't think that it is fair. There are drug addicts & crack whores that walk the face of the earth. Why? She was a de...

A Blast from the Past

Image
Does this look familiar? Jiffy Pop popcorn was big when I was a kid. I didn't think that they made it anymore, now that we have the option of microwave popcorn. Well it still exists. As I was checking out at Walmart today, the women in front of me was buying it. Who would have thought?

Life Is Too Short

Image
I received this as an email & just had to share. I don't mind if you write your name in the dust at my house; just don't date it! LADIES!!! Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it. 'A house becomes a home when you can write 'I love you' on the furniture.' I used to spend at least 8 hours every weekend making sure things were just perfect - 'in case someone came over. Finally I realized one day that no-one came over; they were all out living life and having fun! NOW, when people visit, I don't have to explain the 'condition' of my home. They are more interested in hearing about the things I've been doing while I was away living life and having fun. If you haven't figured this out yet, please heed this advice. Life is short. Enjoy it! Dust if you must ....... but wouldn't it be better to paint a picture or write a letter, bake cookies or a cake and lick the spoon or plant a seed, ponder the difference between want an...

Memorial Day 2009

Image
When we hear that Memorial Day is coming we think of the kick off to summer. How exciting. We open the pools, pull out the grills and sit back and have a cold beer. Sometime the true meaning gets lost. Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. These service people dedicate their lives to protect our country & keep us safe. The next time you see service men or service women, take the time to thank them for their service. After all, they & their families have given up a lot to keep you & your family safe.

Happy Mother's Day

It is not fancy hair, gold jewelry, or fine clothes that should make you beautiful. No, your beauty should come from within you- the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit that will never be destroyed and is very precious to God. 1 Peter 3:3-4 N C V

In Memory

As I sat down to write about the day I had with my kids, I turned on the news & heard that John Challis just passed away. John was diagnosed at the age of 16 with an adult form of liver cancer. John's outlook on life was one of true inspiration. He feels that God has given him this disease because he is strong enough to handle it and can help others by spreading his message. His message is "It is not how many breaths you take, it is what you do with each breath you take." I worked as an RN on the Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant floor at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh for many years. Children & teens will always have a place in my heart. I didn't know John personally, but what I have seen on the news & read on line, he certainly was a fighter to the end.
